Application Process

Depending on class availability, we take admissions throughout the year. For April start admissions, we advise parents to apply by the end of February.

You can book a school tour (free of charge) here.

Our expectation for all parents is that they have read and understood the guidelines outlined in our Admissions Handbook. This assists you in organizing the information the school requires from you when applying for a seat.

Provided that all the correct information is submitted and there are no problems with the application, all applications usually take at least two to three working weeks from the school tour to the confirmation of admission.

Our class placements are based entirely on age. For further information we request you to kindly refer to the grade eligibility chart.

For Kindergarten admissions, we welcome students with no English skills.
For Grade 1 - 12 admissions, our admission procedure includes an English written/verbal assessment which takes place on our premises. Students with limited English ability will be accepted on a case-by-case decision, depending on the space-availability and prior educational experiences.

It is preferable if at least one of the parents should be able to speak and read English.

Yes, the school uses an assessment as part of the application process for all students seeking admission to UIA:
● KG : One-day trial class
● G1-G8 : Written papers
● G9-G12 : Report cards + letters of recommendation

The application fee (11,000yen) needs to be paid in cash on the day of the assessment.

Unfortunately, no, we are unable to provide any support/sponsor for student visa applications. Students applying to our school for a particular grade need to meet with the visa requirements and age-criteria and must have evidence of academic ability/eligibility to enter into a grade.
Applications of students without a valid status of residence in Japan will not be accepted.

All students accepted to UIA International School of Tokyo are expected to function in the regular classroom independently. It is important to note that the ongoing enrollment at UIA International School of Tokyo for students will be based upon the students’ ability to function within the regular program.
UIA International School of Tokyo does not have the facilities or resources to accommodate children who have significant learning, emotional or physical disabilities. Parents of a child receiving any special services, such as learning disabled instruction, remedial support, speech/language therapy, occupational/physical therapy, behavioural support, or seeing any educational specialist outside of the regular classroom, must disclose the additional services that are being implemented with your child.
Supporting documentation from a school psychologist, previous school, and/or paediatrician may be requested by administration to complete the admission process and/or continue at UIA International School of Tokyo. The school may reevaluate the Applicant at any time to determine whether he/she requires additional academic assistance. In the event that any child requires such additional assistance, that additional enrollment criteria may be assessed by UIA International School of Tokyo in order for the Applicant to maintain his/her enrollment.

For Kindergarten 1 (Cubs class), students need to be fully toilet trained. We unfortunately cannot proceed with the applications of Kindergarten students if they still wear diapers.
